How vehicle sound deadening works
Unwanted noise and rattles reach the cabin along four different paths: structure-borne noise, airborne noise, leaks – and how carefully the work is done. Each one can be stopped, and that is exactly how the range below is sorted.

Thin body panels start to resonate and turn that into drumming. An alubutyl mat applied straight onto the panel reduces its resonance and effectively stops panel ringing – the first and most effective step.

Absorbers reduce airborne noise, reverberation and reflections inside the vehicle – the natural complement to alubutyl for balanced vehicle acoustics. Foam, felt and non-woven fibre do that job; the same group holds the heat shields for engine bay and exhaust.

Every opening in the door lets sound energy escape and costs you bass. Sealing discs, foam tapes and cable wrap close clip holes and gaps – that brings back bass precision and puts an end to trim rattle.

Whether a mat still holds in five years comes down to how hard it was pressed on. Roller, crimping tool and trim set are as much part of door damping as the material itself.

Product range

Installation
Damping is not difficult, but it has rules. These six decide whether the result holds and whether you actually hear it.
Wipe the body panel with isopropyl alcohol or a degreaser. Dust, oil and wax residue cost adhesion – and adhesion decides whether the mat still sits there in five years.
Don't try to place a whole sheet at once. Cut it into manageable pieces to suit the surface; with the thicker grades that makes all the difference.
Peel off the liner, lay the piece down loosely and take your time aligning it. Once alubutyl is pressed on, it will not move again.
Work the air bubbles out with the application roller until the mat lies flat across its whole area. In corners and under looms the crimping tool takes over.
60 to 70 percent coverage is enough to audibly cut panel resonance. One clean layer does it – stacking sheets adds no performance, only weight.
Leave it for 24 to 48 hours before the trim goes back on. That is how long the butyl adhesive needs to bond fully with the metal.
